Drums
I was asked to sit in with the ‘Dads when Dave had to leave the group due to scheduling conflicts. I knew that he was a great drummer, I knew that the ‘Dads had been around a while, and I knew that it wouldn’t be easy to learn their entire set list in just a few weeks. They have, however, been very supportive, and it has been surprisingly easy.
I have been drumming off and on since junior high. I bought an old set of Ludwig Vistalites with paper route money, and have been banging away ever since. At that age for me it was all about 80’s BIG HAIR METAL!!!! Quiet Riot started it all…the first song I ever played on drums was the Metal Health (Bang Your Head) song…..nice! From there it was Motley Crue, Poison, Warrant, Ratt, Bon Jovi, even the heavier Megadeth and Metallica. I graduated high school in ’91, and in college it was all the Seattle scene. Nirvana hijacked the radio, as well as Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. At that time in my life I played more Nirvana than Nirvana.
After a few years of that, people got sick of being depressed and angry when they went out to see a band (thank God) so they started looking for happier music, and just like that, country music started taking over. I started playing at country nights at college bars, and they were very popular. I had a ball watching the girls twirl around and dance in those hats and boots and short skirts….an outstanding look for any woman.
After the biggest mistake of my life (graduating college) I joined the real world and kept music as a hobby ever since. I have been playing mostly classic rock and country music, as well as 80’s dance and various top 40 and modern rock. So come on out and see the ‘Dads, and keep dancing!
